Six Injured and One Killed in Boating Crash
In August, six people were injured and one was killed in a devastating Highland Beach boat crash. The force of the impact ejected all seven people from the 24-foot vessel, according to the Palm Beach Post.
37-year-old Samantha Esposito of West Palm Beach was pronounced dead at the scene after the boat she was on collided with a seawall. Tragically, three of the six passengers injured were children under the age of 10.
Two Hospitalized in Miami Boat Collision
In Miami, two were hospitalized after their boat crashed near Broad Causeway Bridge. There were four people aboard the vessel at the time of the crash. The two injury victims were transported to a nearby hospital. The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission was investigating the cause of the May boating accident.
Deadly Accident in Florida Keys
2 were confirmed dead and 10 missing after a boat coming from Cuba overturned near the Florida Keys, as reported by USA Today. The fatal boating accident occurred in May off the coast of Key West.
At the time, first responders were able to pull 8 survivors from the water. Search and rescue continued through the evening for the missing passengers. It is unclear what caused the boat to overturn.
Boater Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run
In the summer, a 50-year-old boater was arrested after allegedly being involved in a fatal hit-and-run. News sources indicate that the boater collided with a man on a personal watercraft near the Rickenbacker Marina.
The suspect then left the scene of the incident, failing to give aid or report it to law enforcement in accordance with state law. The 26-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries at a nearby trauma center.
Jet Skiers Killed in Lover’s Key Crash
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating a fatal boating crash that took the lives of two jet skiers off Lover’s Key. The accident occurred near Big Carlos Pass. Reports indicate that a vessel collided with the jet ski, causing the occupants to be ejected into the water. The victims were a couple vacationing from Virginia.
