Deadly Boating Accident Off Miami Coast
As reported by CBS Miami, two people were killed and ten people were injured after two boats collided near Biscayne Bay on June 17, 2022. The accident happened at approximately 10:45 pm near Nixon Beach. Multiple agencies responded, including the United States Coast Guard, which recovered one body and pulled several of the injured from the water. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue was able to locate and remove the second body from the bay.
Several of the injured passengers were taken to local hospitals for additional treatment. Local 10 News reports that the individuals killed were a father and son that had been aboard the same vessel. It is believed that one of the boats involved was a 30-foot vessel while the other one was around 20 feet. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the cause of the crash, but it seems likely that people were ejected from their boats upon impact.
What to Do If You Are Involved in a Boating Accident
If you are involved in a boating accident or see people in the water, you need to contact local law enforcement. Notify them of the location and what has happened. If you are able, try to help anyone that is injured. It is essential to discuss your case with a boating accident lawyer as early as possible to determine your legal options.
Being on the water, particularly at night, can be extremely dangerous. It is important to have safety gear onboard the vessel, including life preservers for every passenger, throwable floatation devices, lights, and visual signaling devices. The more prepared you are for an emergency, the less likely it will end with tragedy.
