Small Aircraft Crashes in Everglades
According to CBS Miami, the small plane crashed in the west Miami-Dade area. The two people aboard were able to escape the impact unscathed, as reported by the Miami-Dade Police Department.
News video captured the plane flipped over in a field in the Everglades. The aircraft has been identified as a “Soviet-era-dual-winged AN-2.” The crash is currently being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
The accident, which happened at around 1:30 pm on November 14, 2022, occurred about15 miles to the west of the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport. The small General Aviation Airport serves as a reliever for nearby Miami International Airport. It is fitted for most aircraft with “one of the longest general aviation runways in the country.”
Aviation Accident Injuries
In this instance, the survivors of the plane crash were able to walk away uninjured, but that is not always the case. Aviation accidents can often result in serious, life-threatening injuries or death.
Common injuries in airplane crashes:
- Amputations
- Lacerations
- Broken bones
- Crushing injuries
- Internal organ damage
- Burn injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries
If you are involved in an airplane accident, it is in your best interest to speak with an attorney. An attorney can help you understand your rights, including whether you are eligible to file a claim for damages against a liable party.
Small Planes and Accident Rates
Studies show that small planes are more prone to accidents and have a higher fatality rate compared to their larger counterparts. Executive Flyers reports that the reasons small aircraft are more likely to be involved in crashes include pilot error, fewer redundancies, susceptibility to wake turbulence, and heightened challenges in inclement weather.
