Miami Bridge Plane Crash Turns Deadly

Around 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 15, 2022, a single-engine Cessna 172 crashed into traffic on the Haulover Inlet Bridge. According to multiple reports, including the Miami Herald, the plane had lost power midair and was attempting to land on the Miami bridge before clipping multiple vehicles.

The aircraft eventually crashed head-on into an SUV injuring three people on the ground, including a mother and two children. The pilot of the Cessna died at the scene after the plane burst into flames. Two passengers aboard the aircraft, relatives of the pilot, sustained traumatic injuries. Both surviving passengers were taken for treatment at nearby hospitals.

What to Do After an Accident

In the immediate aftermath of a serious accident, it can be challenging to know what to do. Several eyewitness videos circulating social media show good samaritans jumping into action to help the victims of the plane accident.

As with any incident, the first priority should be getting all people to safety. It is imperative to check for injuries and contact 9-1-1. Local law enforcement can dispatch emergency medical personnel to conduct triage at the scene and transport victims to trauma centers or hospitals if necessary.

Once you are able, you should contact a personal injury attorney. In some cases, one or more parties may be liable (i.e., legally responsible) for the incident. Depending on the situation, injured victims or those that have lost a loved one might be entitled to compensation. It is essential to act quickly as injured parties only have a limited amount of time to file a claim based on personal injury or wrongful death and evidence needs to be timely preserved.
